A Russian investigative commission has arrived in Jakarta to determine
the cause of Russia-made Sukhoi Super Jet 100 plane crash that occurred
in West Java on Wednesday.
“The Russian side, together with
Indonesian partners, is ready to take an active part in the
investigation process to determine the cause of the tragedy,” the
Russian Embassy said in a press statement made available on Friday.
“With
this aim, a group of Russian experts from the Ministry of Industry and
Trade of the Russian Federation, the Interstate Aviation Committee, the
JSC [United Aircraft Corporation] and the SCA [Sukhoi Civil Aircraft]
arrived in Jakarta.”
The embassy's press attaché Dmitry
Solodov said the commission arrived at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and would be staying
until there were results.
The investigative commission’s
spokesman Vladimir Markin earlier said the commission would look into
possible criminal cases stemming from the plane crash by investigating,
among others, technicians who prepared the plane for the demonstration
flight and Sukhoi Civil Aircrafts employees responsible for the Sukhoi
project.
The Russia-made aircraft, which took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta, went missing on Wednesday afternoon.
An
Air Force helicopter found the wreckage from the crash at 9:15 a.m. on
Thursday, at a height of 5,500 feet, in the foothills of Mt. Salak in
Cidahu, Sukabumi, West Java.
The plane, which carried 45 passengers in a demonstration flight, was found to have suffered “major damages”.
A search and rescue team is expected to start recovering bodies from the crash site today. (
